In this Article, I am going to share important components of
a CV which a Fresher or entry level job seeker must pay attention to.
Normally employers do not spend more than a minute to go
through your resume. Your resume also called a CV, can make you stand above the
crowd if written well and organized properly.
Why do you need to
pay attention to your CV?
Your first impression is your last impression; you don’t
have a second chance. Invest time in your resume to write it well.
So what all should
your resume carry and should not carry?
The answer is that your resume is a summary of your
education, training, work experience, achievements and skills. Therefore, it is
important that your resume presents all this in the best possible manner.
Although each and every part of the CV is important besides
the layout, the content and the presentation, but for the sake of simplicity we
discuss essential features and components of Entry Level Resume you need to pay
attention to
1. Let us Begin with
The Header
The header should have your name and contact details. The
name could be in bigger font size, while contact details could follow the font
size as rest of the CV text.
Very often candidates like to mention the contact details
towards the end. There is nothing wrong in it but if you are shortlisted for
the recruitment process then the recruiter can easily find your contact
details.
2. Objective
This is the beginning of your career. So you should share
with the prospective employer that what direction or department or field you
are interested in which you want to make a career. This will also help the
Human Resource Department to arrange your interview with the right Team Leader.
It will pay you to be specific and not write some general
statement or vague sentences in this section of your resume.
3. Education
This heading is also called as Educational Qualifications or
Professional Qualifications.
The proper information in this section will help the
prospective employer to check if you have the basic qualifications for the job
you are applying for. Do make sure that you give all the details such as the
Name of the Course / Program / Degree / Diploma; full name of course – rather
than the abbreviations; Name of the Institute / College / University; Year of
passing out / qualifying etc.
4. Internships &
Projects
The selector will refer to this section to see if you have
been exposed to the area or domain you wish to make career in. The prospective
employer would like to check if you have the basic ability.
Therefore, write these details very carefully as this will
show to the recruiter that how you are different from others who are applying
for the same job.
5. Special Skills
This is something in addition to what you have learnt in
your college or university program. For example, if you are an MBA with
specialization in marketing but have also learnt to do some software programming,
then do mention about it. It would be good idea to not only mention about the
skill but also if you have done some work on it.
May be the employer is looking for this kind of combination!
6. Others
Don’t just ignore it or write something casually in this
section of your resume. This section should be well made use of to show case
your other abilities and learning. For example, you may like to mention about
your knowledge of languages; your publication; or any awards or recognition
received by you.
This will definitely add value to your resume.
I hope you will find these points useful.
